Avoid these 7 common notarization mistakes in Massachusetts
IDs, names, initials, dates—use this short checklist so your documents are accepted the first time.
- ID doesn’t match the name on the document. Bring the ID that matches the printed name (allowing minor punctuation differences).
- Unsigned documents. Do not sign before we arrive unless told to. Many documents must be signed in front of the notary.
- Missing witnesses. If your bank/title/recipient needs them, tell us—we can provide/arrange.
- Blank sections. Fill non-notary blanks before we arrive, or confirm what should stay blank.
- Wrong date/initials. Use today’s date, initial where indicated, and sign exactly as the name appears.
- Photocopy of ID. We need the physical, original ID.
- Out-of-state apostilles. MA can only apostille MA documents; use the issuing state for others.
